SFA Urge More Referees To Step Up

With several of Shetland’s senior referees stepping down from their posts this season, a recruitment drive is well underway to attract suitable replacements and ensure the full bill of fixtures on the Isles can be played this season. Only 15 of the 19 referees from last season are continuing this season and the Shetland Football Association are warning that there are currently enough refs to fulfil only three-quarters of the scheduled fixtures in 2016.

In direct response to this shortage, a refereeing training course is going to be taking place over two weekends in February (26th-28th) and March (25th-26th). These training courses will be taking place at Islesburgh Community Centre in Lerwick and will involve a range of different training methods. Football partnership secretary Michael Duncan is calling for anyone interested in becoming involved with refereeing on the Isles to contact current referee Steven Goodlad.
